So, lots to talk about for this one. We'll get to the obvious, but first I'd like to thank everyone that's reached out to me over the past few days and followed me on Twitter. The response I've gotten is pretty overwhelming in a good way and almost immediately after I got hit I had a couple texts and messages on Facebook asking if I was ok. Also shout out to the lady that was sitting a few seats away from me for supplying me with tissues.
So, what happened? Well, this:
Basically Tyler Graovac dumped the puck in and the crosswinds in Xcel were blowing just right because the puck hit the hole on the glass that I shoot through and smacked me on the side of my head. Those holes are fairly new too, oops. Anyway, my perspective when it happened is that I was looking at my camera and tagging my photos that I was going to send when I went back to the media work room at intermission and I heard a loud BANG which was immediately followed by my cheek stinging while everyone in the background went "OH!" I'm a little shocked at this point because I knew I got hit by a puck, so I bring my hand up to where it's stinging and I see blood so clearly it's smart of me to ask "Am I bleeding?" People around me were going "YES, IT'S BLEEDING REAL BAD, IT'S FLOWING" which got me a little freaked out because I didn't want to get stitches or anything but the EMTs working the game were able to get me cleaned up and patched up with a couple band aids. I wasn't able to get the puck, if you look in the video you see a guy a few rows up rush down to where the puck is to grab it immediately after it hits me and then he goes back to his seat. People were yelling at him to give me the puck and as I was leaving to go up to First Aid, I asked him if I could have it and he went (paraphrasing) "WHAT?! No! Come on, can I have it? It's for my 8 year old sister I just got off the phone with her come on man, can I have it?" which at that point I just went "Fine, just keep it." So to everyone that's asked, no I didn't get to keep the puck but it's not a big deal.
Special thanks to the Minnesota Wild, Michael Russo, Chad Graff, and the sniper himself Tyler Graovac for retweeting me, getting my aftermath photo out there for everyone to see. I even got a mention from Fox Sports North in their article about the situation. Also thanks to Tyler for reaching out in the first place, super nice of him.
Ok, enough about me. Onto photos. I wanted to cover this particular game because of Jaromir Jagr. Jagr is one of the few players in the NHL that I consider a living legend and the guy is still buzzing at the age of 44. He just makes things look so easy on the ice because he's a freak when it comes to working out and training. It's just incredible watching him play. I also purposefully set up a remote over the Panthers net because Roberto Luongo was starting. He had a rough night (let in 5 goals) but he's going to be in the Hall of Fame some day. He's currently 6th all time in wins and he definitely has the potential to move up to 4th
That's all from me. Face is healing fine, pretty minor cut so I'm very thankful for that and that it wasn't my gear taking the brunt of the hit. I'm not shooting again until after Christmas and I'm not sure if I'm going to get another post up so if I don't I hope you all have a great holiday!
